Stein announced on her website that she has raised enough money to fund recounts in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania and was pursuing additional funding to do the same in MI. She says she wants to make sure hackers didn’t skew the results in those swing states. The goal as of Friday was to raise $7 million.
Independent presidential candidate Rocky De La Fuente, who got 1,514 votes in Wisconsin, also filed a recount request in Wisconsin on Friday afternoon saying he, too, was anxious about cyber-tampering. The money is well beyond the $2 million mark the Green Party initially set, and Wisconsin party officials said that any additional money not used for the recount would be used to train Green Party candidates for local office.
In a second Twitter post from her verified account, Conway referred to former secretaries of state Henry Kissinger and George Schultz, both Cabinet officers in previous Republican administrations, as men who “flew around the world less, counseled POTUS (president of the United States) close to home more”.
George Martin, a member of the Wisconsin Green Party’s coordinating council, says Stein’s campaign will file the request by the state’s 5 p.m. Friday deadline. “We’re doing this to ensure the integrity of our system”.
Trump’s team ignored questions about the looming recounts.
President-elect Donald Trump didn’t take off all of Thanksgiving Day while enjoying a long holiday weekend with his family at his Mar-a-Lago estate. Meet Trump’s new deputy national security adviser, KT McFarland, and his new White House counsel, Don McGahn.
He cited McFarland’s “tremendous experience and innate talent”, which he said would “complement the fantastic team we are assembling”.
Having faced criticism about the inexperience of his initial picks, Trump finds in McFarland someone who previously worked under three presidents, although none since Ronald Reagan.
Trump said McGhan, who served as his campaign attorney, “has a brilliant legal mind, excellent character and a deep understanding of constitutional law”.
Neither position requires Senate confirmation.
Trump transition spokesman Sean Spicer said the president-elect scheduled Monday meetings with eight more prospective administration hires, a group that includes several business leaders, Pennsylvania Rep. Lou Barletta, and David Clarke, the Wisconsin sheriff who is an aggressive opponent of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Facing external pressure from Stein, there were also signs of internal discord within the president-elect’s small inner circle as Trump weighed his choices for secretary of state. She’s better known these days as a national security analyst on Fox News. “We know that there were attempts made broadly on state voter databases and we know that we have an election system that relies a computer system that is wide open to hacks”, Stein told CNN’s John Berman Thursday.
Trump’s November 8 victory was unexpected and historic, by some measures.
While the loss of those states played a large part in Clinton’s downfall, her lead in the popular vote has continued to grow.
He won in Pennsylvania.
President-elect Donald Trump won Wisconsin and Pennsylvania by razor-thin margins and has a small lead in MI.
While the recounts are unlikely to change the election result, they could complicate Trump’s calls for national unity as he tries to move past what may have been the nastiest presidential contest in the modern era.
Ross Hein, elections supervisor for the state commission, sent a memo to county clerks on Wednesday telling them to expect a recount.
In Michigan, Trump’s 10,704-vote lead is expected to be certified by the state elections board Monday. Michigan’s deadline is Wednesday.
